With hotspots and wireless service providers offering devices that are broadband capable as well as Phone Service with number portability, hey what can be better? I see Local Search services skyrocketing with companies that offer Location Based Information. Social Networks will most likely see the biggest increase of revenue for the reason that information provided by their members can be categorically targeted for their interests, so no matter where their members may be traveling they can easily receive information based on what they are searching for. I see expanded services that include timed alerts when a consumer device logs into a certain tower or hotspot that may trigger another event such as logging into a group or even tasks of clocking into work or the sending of information. Enhanced learned Services that target consumers profile, interests, or business aspects by recognizing where you are and your surroundings in a geographic location can send localized based information. What I think will be a really great service is when a consumer may search for a product or see an advertisement they will be able to query or see results on the closest business that may have that product in stock or not, put a hold on the product or purchase through an online commerce like E-Wallet. VOIP for Mobile devices I believe will probably be implemented by Motorola and Sprint PCS. Think about being able to make a voice call from anywhere there is a hotspot for free. I believe CDMA, TDMA, and GSM will become the Analogs under today's VOIP, based on the recent trends and news. W-CDMA, EDGE, Wi-Max are offering fast and robust services that include advanced mutimedia content which is paving the way right now and is on our doorstep. Local Wireless and Mobile Search will be used by all of these companies and technologies I mentioned here including yes consumers like me from which I just composed this post from my Mobile Device.

Google Talks With Sony and Motorola About Municipal Wi-Fi Nets

Nice article, if you click through you will read how the emergence of Location Based Advertising may be implemented from Google to certain devices. This is something Ive posted on quite a bit. You can see how Wirless Search will play a big role in Mobile Communication and consumers with wireless devices.

Google Talks With Sony and Motorola About Municipal Wi-Fi Nets
InfoWorld reports that Google has had conversations with Motorola and Sony about their products could best be used with municipal Wi-Fi networks. Google currently operates a Wi-Fi network in their home town of Mountain View, CA and is also in the running to build one in San Francisco. Google also sponsors a wireless network in New York City's, Bryant Park.
"We're doing everything we can to make this a playground for devices," said Christopher Sacca, principal in new business development at Google..."
The article also notes that Google is interested in the Sony PSP.
"There's like five million of those in the U.S. now, they've all got Wi-Fi in them. We're trying to do what we can to make those devices able to log on to this network," Sacca said.
Maybe a Google wireless games service (let's call it GGames) is in the works?
The article also touches on how Google might build and pay for wireless networks.
By keeping track of which access point a user is connected to, Google will be able to locate users within two blocks for the purposes of sending them advertising for businesses nearby, Sacca said. Google would sell ads by postal code, potentially uncovering a new class of advertisers among small local businesses that don't buy space in other media today, he said. Google's localized ads would be a more efficient way for them to reach likely customers, according to Sacca..."Highly targeted ads may be able to pay for these things," Sacca said.

Motorola to add Google button to phone

"Wireless Search coming full circle starting with Wireless Handheld Devices"

LAS VEGAS-Motorola Inc. is the lucky winner of a handset deal with Google Inc. as the Internet giant turns its considerable focus toward wireless.
Motorola said it has designed a handset with a Google button that connects users to Google's wireless Internet services. The company expects the Google-button phone to be in the hands of users sometime in the first quarter. The company didn't offer details about which of its phone models would sport the new Google button.

"Many of our customers have been asking for mobile devices integrated with their consumers' favorite online search services," said Scott Durchslag, corporate vice president and general manager of Global Products for Motorola's Mobile Device business. "Our relationship with Google provides an opportunity for us to offer a high quality mobile search experience-one familiar to and loved by millions of users across the globe."
"Access to information is imperative for people on-the-go," said Nikesh Arora, vice president of European Operations at Google. "Whether checking the local weather or locating the restaurant of their choice, consumers today require personalized search services that are tailored to their needs. With immediate access to Google, millions of Motorola users worldwide will be able to quickly and easily find information that's important to them."
As the Consumer Electronics Show winds up in Las Vegas, there is much speculation about Google's direction in the technology arena. AMPD is making waves with Video Service, that struck a major deal with MTV. Cingular Wireless is in trial with using your cell phone as a form of payment at convenient stores. Video iPod May go Wireless, I wrote up a post on this back in November here:Wireless iPod. Verizon Wireless vamping up on its Location Based Services as I described here in a post around September about the kinds of services that can be used in conjunction with Wireless Search Engine Marketing. One popular Location based Service that Cingular has stopped was its friend finder service that allows you to locate friends or family based on their locations proximity within a cellular tower. AT&T used to offer this service however now that Cingular bought out AT&T they have decided to discontinue it. I liked the Friend Finder service, my ex-wife and I used it, and when my Sony Ericsson T68i became lost somewhere, I used her phone to locate it at a grocery store in Las Vegas by sending a friend find request to it automatically and it would read out the street locations on her phone as to where the closet tower was. We then used her what's close by service for businesses and that is how we located it, as I lost it earlier running errands.

Phone Manufacturers Switching to Linux based operating System

Panasonic Shutters GSM Phone Business For 3G And W-CDMA Interesting on what platforms may be used for Wireless Search and how these new tecnologies will effect your browsing experience .

Future Wireless Devices

Wireless and Mobile devices are increasingly supporting new features and services to fit our needs in our everyday lifestyle. The Personal Mobile Communication devices of the future will thrive with platforms that can support many applications. One application is Symbian OS that you find on most Smart Phones and new PDA's. Opera also makes a browser that looks like a windows browser with easy to use menus. What is going to be great about these wireless and Mobile devices is the integration and support of services. These services are going to include personal streaming radio, TV on demand, News bursts, Customized Search with pictures, links, and optional preferences that let you link to an all in one account for all you Needs that would include E-Wallet, E-Mail, and a Portable phone number that you can take from one device to another. However this phone number will change to VOIP as it catches on. Wireless and Mobile devices of the future will integrate GPS features with information services. What I see in the future that will be a killer app will be an application that will allow people to share any kind of information based on their profile or preferences with their Mobile device, so if you are in a certain area or belong to an organization and you may be looking for information or to meet people, others can send you this information or a business could send you this information as you pass by their location. Broadcast messaging I think will also be a big application and a form of advertisement. Broadcast messaging and Broadcast advertisements will enable the communication of messages or information in certain targeted areas of interest. To give an example of this type of Messaging, lets say you are in Times Square on New Years Eve where of course there is going to be many people in a certain geographic location for a certain reason. Organizers of these events can broadcast a list of events or or advertisements for local affiliates for the services available for the event at hand. Now you can take this a little further and target specific messages to certain age groups or a specific organization for example (Christians) based on their profiles or if they signed up for specific services that enable them to receive certain types of messages based on pre determined criteria. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg that will be in full scale by the year 2010. Mobile devices will be integrated into our daily lives where I think they will be an important and must have device for work and play. With these devices though you will have problems with privacy, as it is already at hand. However these devices will enable the world to communicate more freely and quicker. The benefits will greatly out weigh the negative disadvantages by the way of safety and information, like for example take the amber alert into consideration! Or Local traffic reports that include detours or information on what is happening on the road ahead that you cannot see. I welcome these Wireless and Mobile devices with arms wide open, do you?

Video iPod will go Wireless

With the success of iPods and now the new Video iPods, I think the next step will be wireless iPods with internet access. With the internet access you will be able to download short clips or movies very cheap! Lets look into it a little and see how video iPods will generate a considerable income for just about any kind of business you can think of. The first thought that has come to my mind when i first heard about the video iPods is Airlines. You can download movies for your flight or newsburst of specific categories or information that you are interested in. Colleges or seminars come to my mind next. If you miss a class or a teacher or professor records classes that can be downloaded for your viewing later. News headlines you can download and listen or watch on your way to work in the morning, because lets face it we are on short time as it is. I think advertising will generate a major source of revenue, just as it is now on the internet, but when you add Location Based Podvertising in conjunction with search features this is where the money will be. With Local Search, Location Based Services and Mapping features put together with Advertising then you will have a company that will generate a considerable amount of income. Now lets introduce wireless devices such as video ipods into the picture. I will give an Example of how this can benefit consumers as well as companies looking to broaden their business into the wireless search industry. I am a consumer looking for a house to buy in a certain area and IM driving around town browsing the houses on the market. I refer to my wireless Video ipod and do a Google search for houses or real estate. My query results return with a map, driving directions, Contact Information for who may be selling the property and a video clip of the house. Another example can be used with sending short video advertisements of a hotel or restaurant as I drive or walk by a place of establishment, My iPod can receive this information just by logging into a hotspot or wireless node. iPods may be equipped with cameras (iPodcam) to take pics and short video clips as well as used as a scanner for barcode print advertisement, so when you may read an advertisement or an article in a magazine or newspaper you can scan the barcode with your iPodcam and be taken to a video clip or video advertisement about that product or article. What gets ineresting is when your Video iPod can download video clips of music or sports or an advertisement based on a profile you set up on the wireless device. Add in Bluetooth and you can send video podcasts to the person next to you. Set that Bluetooth to discovery mode and connect and share information within 50 meters or farther. Whoever wants to view a short Video podcast of a profile of me may do so at will. Video Podcast dating! Now that is something I may look forward to before I go meet them in person. What I do know is that the future is at our fingertips. I'm not going to be left behind are you?

Intel Goes Global with WiMax - Yahoo! If you have not you probably will! Mobile games are advancing with handsets as technology pushes forward. Mobile Games are going to generate $10 billion a year by 2010 for the wireless Industry and Software companies alike. Jamster, and DadaMobile Are just 2 of many companies ahead of the game, but rest assured there is plenty of room with such a big piece of the gaming pie as it will be. Well where does Wireless search come into the picture in the mobile gaming industry? Location Based Services will provide a way for wireless Search to enter into the market by providing local search and Mapping coordinates. What kind of game requires maps or Location Based Gameplay? These games will be Live RPG, Contest, Team, Tournament, and Location Based Dating as well as Chat. Local companies will be able to offer these games to drive revenue and in return offer Product, services or a prize. Lets say you are in Las Vegas and you log into a cellular tower or HotSpot and you are given the chance to enter a poker tournament, all you have to do to Qualify is beat a few players on your wireless device first. These kind of advertisements can be brought upon by Wireless Search that promted you to follow a link that read "Play free poker for your chance to enter a tournament at binions Horseshoe Hotel and Casino" hey why not go in there maybe gamble a little bit and get a bite to eat $$$. This is just a small example of Wireless Search and Mobile Gaming coming together. Implementing mobile contextual ads for Mobile and wireless devices is a small task of making this kind of code work on different Platforms and wireless devices. However this can be eliminated by adding a piece of code to each search Page of Web Page that when a wireless device lands on the Queried page it automatically serves up the correct format wether you have a wireless device that uses Wap Protocal, Symbian, Windows Mobile, or Palm. With wireless devices that render small display screens this may be a bit decieving for the reason that you may click on a link that might actually look like part of the web page that reads "Next" or "Click her for more info" These links may be formatted that looks like the page you are browsing becouse they have to format to fit the size of the view screen. However this can be improved by making the links come up in a different color or stating above links by displaying the word "Advertisement"

Changes in the Wireless Industry

We can see the recent changes in the wireless industry. As well as search, these include:

Location dependence—Google is now very good at geo-location, and directs you to a search cluster near you for performance. It can also show you geo-targeted ads, which will probably become more fine-grained in future.
Wi-Fi—it seems that Google is about to launch a public access Wi-Fi product, which it will also secure with a VPN offering: Google Secure Access. This should mean that security will be better on a Google Wi-Fi access point than with, say, T-Mobile. Speculation is that access will be free, and Google will generate revenue by mining contextual information as they do today with Google ads.
Bandwidth—Google seems to have been busy buying up insane amounts of "dark fiber" capacity in the US, which it'll need if it's going to offer free Wi-Fi!
As an example, combine these three factors with Froogle (Google's comparison shopping service). If you're out shopping in bricks and mortar stores, what if you could connect using your PDA over Google Wi-Fi for free, it knew where you were, and could show you the closest place to purchase what you're looking for?

TJ's Weblog - "Technology, Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship" - Bittorrent with $8.75 million round

Destinator Technologies
Destinator says it is Number 3 provider of location based services in Europe and just launched in the US. Google has moved into the Japanese market for a strategic reason. Japan and NTT DoCoMo have proven the benefits of Wireless Search and communications. Japan is testing grounds for technological advances that will eventually lead into other world markets. The latest feud between Google and Microsoft has great merrit. Microsoft already has a slight advantage in the mobile market with their windows for mobile software. Google has taken a step further in developing their own wireless network in Wi-Fi capabilities to deliver their sweet of future services too wireless devices. Google is running print ads right?. I believe this is testing water for what is to come. Wireless devices and high speed networks will be a cash machine for advertising when you look at it from the terms of a technology standpoint. These ads printed in magazines and newspapers will contain a code, barcode, or a URL that can be scanned or typed into a wireless device. These printed links or "Information Tags" can lead to video advertisements and coupons with other contexual ads. This leads to better Vertical Advertisements that will increase Google's Ad revenue. Location Based Advertising will see a dramatic jump in their services from this. Im sure Google Labs is developing wireless applications that will deal with wireless Search and the Google AdSense network. Microsoft and Google both are software companies that are competing for the edge in the Wireless Search Industry. In the end the victor is always going to be the consumer. Who will be providing the best service with a host of usefull features is yet too come, but i can tell you one thing, Wireless Broadband companies already have an advantage too take the market! There is going to be some big mergers happening and i can see company aquisitions coming quickly. With the right research and technology I feel Google's wireless venture is a leap in the right direction for the next step In the Internet as it develops a new way of life integrating information and e-commerce into our daily lives. The future is here, are you ready?

Voice Search

Voice Reconition Search should play a significant role in the wireless search industry. Mobile Handsets today have features that let us say the persons name and then the phone dials the number. Sony Ericsson handsets voice reconition technology lets you record a keyword or keyphrase for variouse functions such as "call too" then it beeps and you would say for example "home". Wireless Search could make use of this type of application on handsets effectively. GPS units use voice reconition technology for maps and directions. This type of feature included with handsets will be a great use for wireless search industry for the reson of ease of use and functionality. Consumers who are mobile, that may be driving down the road or have their hands tied up simply have to speak keyword="Search" for "Directions" or "Shopping Mall" and results would appear accordingly with the first close in distance of mileage from your location to the last being furthest point of destination. This would be a great feature for Location Based Services. Wireless Search will take many forms and be developed around research and business models. Advertising and Marketing companies are willing to increase their budget as long as they are getting proven results from more relevant targeted areas of interest. wireless carriers know where you are and to what services you are subscribed too. This data of compiled profiles include your interests, age, gender, Wireless Internet surfing habits, services you subscribe too and any purchasing transactions(E-Wallet). This Information is a gold mine for companies who wish to provide the best advertising and marketing services in the wireless industry.

This leads to personalized services that can be marketed to specific groups of consumers. With over a trillion $$ to spend our teenage generation is a perfect canidate for Social Interactive Services like Chat by ZIP code and Cell Phone Tag.

Targeted ads used with Location based Services can be broadcast to specific geographic areas. Some forms of these ads would be (SMS) (MMS) (E-Mail) and Video Bursts. These ads can be triggered by events like when you move from one wireless tower or access point to the next.

Most consumers when they are on the road use their wireless device for finding locations and directions. This gives a chance for local business to boost their income especially if your located in a town of tourism and attractions. "You want the best Pizza in town" click here directions included.

Wireless device manufacturers are making their handsets with full internet browsing capabilities, so there should be no problem with browsing the web and not being able to surf what you want becouse your wireless provider may restrict content. They want you to stay with their service, so the wireless web will be umbigouse eventually and then that is when Wireless Search Engine Marketing will have its greates advantages. We could see Contexual ads for wireless devices that display in conjunction with current National and Economical events. Wireless Search Engine Marketing will open new doors of revenue for every business out there including Health sectors, Hospitallity, Sports, and the gaming industry. Oh yeah and i almost forgot about the Geek sector, we are growing rapidly! What challenges are ahead? and are they prepared for a new way of search. Some big challenges I see with the evolution of wireless search is the delivery method and what is the best format to display the results in.

Consumers want information right away. With wireless broadband we can see this happening, however when we hand-off from one broadband tower to the next as we move around we may be interupted. These hand-offs must move smoothly and be able to resume where we left off. Applications have already been developed for this solution. In all the goal is to keep the consumer happy with their wireless browsing experience. I am sure there are other solutions available but i think the best solutions are yet to come becouse of the wireless infancy stage we are in at this point.

Text based results are of course the best way of displaying information that is queried upon. Results should be displayed in an easy to read format that is short and to the point. I do not want to be continuously pushing the down keypad button on my wireless device. Search Engines have to come up with a solution for rendering a more vertical search response from the beginning to the end of the search queried upon. This means from the consumers point of view when I want to find out some information on something and I go to a search engine website on my wireless device, I would like to have an easy to navigate website structure within 2 to 3 button pushes. Most mobile devices come with T-9 text input for predictive text input so the search querry should be no problem. The results that were queried upon need to come back with a short title and description for the reason that wireless devices have small display screens and search results can return large amounts of information. These search results should have keyword linking, by this I mean suppose you have queried upon the keyword or keyphrase " famouse bridges", there should be more relative link suggestions that show up in the results like "search more on maps and Directions of Famouse bridges" or "search more on Famouse European Bridges" that you can easily click on for more relative results. I stated above the point is to have a good consumer experience with search results on a wireless device.

Wireless Search Engine Marketing will be big business in the next 2 years as if it isnt already. I can see more search engines diving into partnership with handset manufacturers and wireless content providers offering Location Based Services supported by advertising alone. Ringtones and Games are creating big revenue sources for many companies already. Adult services have hit the wireless Internet mainstream. Location based dating anyone? sure, send me your pic first. I believe Search Engine Portals that will be able to deliver these services to consumers with wireless handheld devices will lead the way into capturing a large piece of the internet pie. There is so much more to talk about, think of the possibilities.
What do you think about wireless search, is it a big part of search engine business?

Motricity: Technology

Yahoo have selected "Pinpoint" now known as "Motricity".
