Richi'Blog: What's Google's next move in wireless?
Google's in a great position to take advantage of the many things it has going for it. As well as search, these include:
Location dependence—Google is now very good at geo-location, and directs you to a search cluster near you for performance. It can also show you geo-targeted ads, which will probably become more fine-grained in future.
Wi-Fi—it seems that Google is about to launch a public access Wi-Fi product, which it will also secure with a VPN offering: Google Secure Access. This should mean that security will be better on a Google Wi-Fi access point than with, say, T-Mobile. Speculation is that access will be free, and Google will generate revenue by mining contextual information as they do today with Google ads.
Bandwidth—Google seems to have been busy buying up insane amounts of "dark fiber" capacity in the US, which it'll need if it's going to offer free Wi-Fi!
As an example, combine these three factors with Froogle (Google's comparison shopping service). If you're out shopping in bricks and mortar stores, what if you could connect using your PDA over Google Wi-Fi for free, it knew where you were, and could show you the closest place to purchase what you're looking for?

Google's Venture Into Wireless Search
Voice Search
Voice Reconition Search should play a significant role in the wireless search industry. Mobile Handsets today have features that let us say the persons name and then the phone dials the number. Sony Ericsson handsets voice reconition technology lets you record a keyword or keyphrase for variouse functions such as "call too" then it beeps and you would say for example "home". Wireless Search could make use of this type of application on handsets effectively. GPS units use voice reconition technology for maps and directions. This type of feature included with handsets will be a great use for wireless search industry for the reson of ease of use and functionality. Consumers who are mobile, that may be driving down the road or have their hands tied up simply have to speak keyword="Search" for "Directions" or "Shopping Mall" and results would appear accordingly with the first close in distance of mileage from your location to the last being furthest point of destination. This would be a great feature for Location Based Services. Wireless Search will take many forms and be developed around research and business models. I think Voice Search would be a step in the right direction especially when it comes from the consumers point of view.

Wireless Search Engine Marketing
Wireless Search Engine Marketing in the future will revolutionize the way mobile commerce is done. Advertising and Marketing companies are willing to increase their budget as long as they are getting proven results from more relevant targeted areas of interest. wireless carriers know where you are and to what services you are subscribed too. This data of compiled profiles include your interests, age, gender, Wireless Internet surfing habits, services you subscribe too and any purchasing transactions(E-Wallet). This Information is a gold mine for companies who wish to provide the best advertising and marketing services in the wireless industry.
This leads to personalized services that can be marketed to specific groups of consumers. With over a trillion $$ to spend our teenage generation is a perfect canidate for Social Interactive Services like Chat by ZIP code and Cell Phone Tag. Targeted ads used with Location based Services can be broadcast to specific geographic areas. Some forms of these ads would be (SMS) (MMS) (E-Mail) and Video Bursts. These ads can be triggered by events like when you move from one wireless tower or access point to the next. Most consumers when they are on the road use their wireless device for finding locations and directions. This gives a chance for local business to boost their income especially if your located in a town of tourism and attractions. "You want the best Pizza in town" click here directions included.Wireless device manufacturers are making their handsets with full internet browsing capabilities, so there should be no problem with browsing the web and not being able to surf what you want becouse your wireless provider may restrict content. They want you to stay with their service, so the wireless web will be umbigouse eventually and then that is when Wireless Search Engine Marketing will have its greates advantages. We could see Contexual ads for wireless devices that display in conjunction with current National and Economical events. Wireless Search Engine Marketing will open new doors of revenue for every business out there including Health sectors, Hospitallity, Sports, and the gaming industry. Oh yeah and i almost forgot about the Geek sector, we are growing rapidly! I just posted this blog thanks to my Sony Ericsson P800.

Wireless Search Experience & Wireless Search Engine Marketing
Consumers want information right away. With wireless broadband we can see this happening, however when we hand-off from one broadband tower to the next as we move around we may be interupted. These hand-offs must move smoothly and be able to resume where we left off. Applications have already been developed for this solution. In all the goal is to keep the consumer happy with their wireless browsing experience. I am sure there are other solutions available but i think the best solutions are yet to come becouse of the wireless infancy stage we are in at this point.
Text based results are of course the best way of displaying information that is queried upon. Results should be displayed in an easy to read format that is short and to the point. I do not want to be continuously pushing the down keypad button on my wireless device. Search Engines have to come up with a solution for rendering a more vertical search response from the beginning to the end of the search queried upon. This means from the consumers point of view when I want to find out some information on something and I go to a search engine website on my wireless device, I would like to have an easy to navigate website structure within 2 to 3 button pushes. Most mobile devices come with T-9 text input for predictive text input so the search querry should be no problem. The results that were queried upon need to come back with a short title and description for the reason that wireless devices have small display screens and search results can return large amounts of information. These search results should have keyword linking, by this I mean suppose you have queried upon the keyword or keyphrase " famouse bridges", there should be more relative link suggestions that show up in the results like "search more on maps and Directions of Famouse bridges" or "search more on Famouse European Bridges" that you can easily click on for more relative results. I stated above the point is to have a good consumer experience with search results on a wireless device.
Wireless Search Engine Marketing will be big business in the next 2 years as if it isnt already. I can see more search engines diving into partnership with handset manufacturers and wireless content providers offering Location Based Services supported by advertising alone. Ringtones and Games are creating big revenue sources for many companies already. Adult services have hit the wireless Internet mainstream. Location based dating anyone? sure, send me your pic first. I believe Search Engine Portals that will be able to deliver these services to consumers with wireless handheld devices will lead the way into capturing a large piece of the internet pie. There is so much more to talk about, think of the possibilities.
What do you think about wireless search, is it a big part of search engine business?
